Their selling a belief. The income is mostly from promotional items (that each congregation purchase) that support and promote this belief. But what happens when people will no longer accept anything on the printed page as it seems this avenue of communication is dying to the digital media? How will they produce income then?

Free Will and Foreknowledge
by TheUbermensch inhi, i'm a new member that enjoys civil debate, so i thought i'd just throw a topic out there.. if we take the standard, contemporary judeo-christian god (all-knowing, all powerful, and perfectly good in every possible way) and attempt to incorporate free will, we end up with a contradiction.
an all knowing being knows everything that has occured, is occuring and will occur, if otherwise then we can not consider this being to know all.
if god knows all that will happen, then he knows our decisions, as well as the outcomes of those decisions.

God does not know the future! If he knew the future he would not be a God of love. The future has not happened so God cannot know it. When a doctor gives fore-knowledge according to how a persons treatment will turn out he only can base this on his wisdom as a doctor. God bases what he says regarding the future on his wisdom. He is almighty so he can also steer the outcome. When God created adam and eve he did not know how they would act nor did he program them to act a certain way. He knew the possibilities. But he could find a Just way to handle whatever came about. Any action god takes must be in harmony with his personality.
As usual people misunderstand the words in the bible and make it say what they want.

What really ended the book study in private homes?
by Alfred init's been over 3 years since the book study in private homes was discontinued and some jws are still scratching their heads over it.
although a letter was read to all congregations explaining that "book study night" would now be "family worship night", there was still much speculation among jws as to the real reason behind this decision (the great tribulation was about to start, jehovah was simplifying the lives of jws, to lessen the burden of poor jws who had no money for gas, etc.)...
but as we all know, decisions like these from the gb invariably have some ulterior motive behind it... and discussion boards such as this one usually finds a way to dig up the truth for all to see... but after reading several threads on this subject, i'm really not sure we've uncovered all the facts yet.... so i have to ask... what do you believe really ended the book study in private homes?

How many ex-JW's are musicians on here?
by NoRegrets injust wondering how many of us on here are musicians, what we play, and if we had witness bands and/or performed.
i have had quite a few funny moments of being in bands that wanted to be cool, but always had to nerf the edginess of any songs we played and watch the noise!
i played with different elders who loved to rock out, but when they played at a congregation party didn't even want to use overdrive of any kind!

the bible clearly states that homosexuality is wrong and is an abhorrent sin.

Well I would say most people have relationships for more reasons than just to have sex! And you say you are not judging but your comment shows that you believe having sex with ones self is okay and sex with opposite sex is ok but shouldn't happen within same sex?
Most relationships are base on LOVE and that is the NEED that MUST be filled to live a happy and satisfying life unless one is born without that need.
Why can't we all just live and let live?
